Pi-hole is great! It has pretty graphs. I know you can do most of what this does using pfSense with DNSBL feature in pfBlockerNG, but no pretty graphs.

Its a pretty easy install either on a raspbian image on your raspberry pi or a basic ubuntu server image on a VM.

curl -sSL https://install.pi-hole.net | bash

I did the VM option. I gave it 3GB ram and 30GB storage both which was over kill. Average CPU is 150MHz, 243.07MB RAM,  and after a month its only using 3.11GB with logs and all.

If you want to install pi-hole the safer way follow these directions.

How to update your pi-hole? The time will come!
its just:

pihole -up

Manage your own lists in pi-hole.

rename /etc/pihole/adlists.default to /etc/pihole/adlists.list.

Then either add your own or un-comment the ones provided.

So obviously you are going to need to remove your current DNS settings on your DHCP server and place your pi-hole as your DNS. Make sure in the pi-hole you configure the upstream DNS. When selecting a upstream DNS provider I reccomend running this DNS Benchmark tool from GRC to find the best DNS server your your area/ISP.
